Pella traveled to Des Moines Saturday to take part in the Roosevelt Roughrider boys soccer tournament.
The Little Dutch fell in both of their close contests. Pella’s first matchup was against Council Bluffs-Abraham Lincoln, in which Head Coach Mark Solomon sasy the Dutch struggled to get going, but a nice finish from Bailey Hamilton put them up 1-0 just after the halfway mark. Unfortunately, Pella could not keep up and allowed 2 goals to fall 2-1. In the second game, Pella played Sioux City West, who Solomon says showed a fast and technical, physical attack. Pella went up early on an own goal by SC West, but then allowed 2 quick goals in succession to trail 2-1 at the half. The Dutch dominated possession and created multiple opportunities in the 2nd half. Ethan Poulter tied the game with 12 minutes to play, and it ended 2-2 after regulation. Solomon says the team was optimistic going into the PK tiebreaker, but fell 5-3 on kicks. Pella is 2-4 and travels to Indianola Tuesday.
