A Flash Flood Watch is in effect beginning at 1 a.m. Wednesday through later that evening.
According to the National Weather Service, recent rains over this past weekend brought heavy rainfall to most of southern Iowa, with some areas receiving between 1 to 2 inches and a few isolated places approaching 2.5 inches. Additional heavy rainfall is possible from tonight through Wednesday night. Flash flooding and river flooding may result from this rainfall.
Thunderstorms with locally heavy rain are expected tonight, with the best chances along and south of Interstate 80. Additional thunderstorms with locally heavy rain are expected through Wednesday night. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather south of I-80 for Wednesday afternoon and evening. Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats.
