With three area track and field teams competing at Eddyville last night in district qualifiers, the class 2A state meet will see a host of Marion County athletes at the state meet.
The PCM girls track squad had the best night, winning the district championship with a total of 111 team points and qualifying six separate events. Finishing first was the 4×400 relay team, while second place finishers were Jayci Vos in the 400 hurdles, Maddie Samson in the shot put, and the 4×800, shuttle hurdle, and distance medley relay teams.
The Pella Christian girls finished in third and boasted seven separate state qualifers. Evie Armstrong in the 100m, Mary Kate Bandstra in the 200m, Chloe Morgan in the 400m, Morgan Fopma in the 400 hurdles, Elizabeth Van Manen in the discus, and the 4×200 and sprint medley relay teams.
Pleasantville had Kylee Van Haalen-Brown break a 43 year old school record to qualify in the discus, and Kasey Pelzer in the long jump.
For the boys, PCM finished in third place with 95 points and qualified four separate events to the state meet, Chris Ellens in the 1600, Cole Dustin in the 110 hurdles, Noah Anderson in the 200m, and Noah Clark in the shot put.
Pella Christian’s Grant Dunsbergen placed second to auto qualify in the 3200.
