Marion County Public Health is wanting to remind parents a new immunization requirement will be in effect next school year for all students enrolling in grades 7th through 12th.
The change requires a one-time dose of meningococcal vaccine received on or after 10 years of age for students in grades seven and above, and two doses of meningococcal vaccines with 1 dose received on or after 16 years of age for students in grade 12. This requirement is effective for the 2017-2018 school year. Nurse Judi Van Hulzen with Marion County Public Health tells KNIA/KRLS News not every vaccine is 100% effective but if we all get vaccinated and surround ourselves with vaccinated people, we are safe. For more information on the new meningitis vaccine requirement and for other school vaccine information contact Marion County Public Health.
