Zoning was the focus of the Pella City Council at their meeting this week.

Assistant City Administrator Corey Goodenow says expansion of commercial zoning near the intersection of Washington Street and West 16th Street. There were concerns about traffic and what may go on the newly zoned area, but Goodenow says the site plan process should help alleviate concerns, assuming the ordinance passes a third reading.

The council also approved the second reading of an application changing zoning for St. Mary’s Church on Peace Street to institutional ahead of an acquisition by Central College. The council waved a third reading to adopt the ordinance.
