Former Montezuma boys basketball coach Derek Schulte has been named to replace Mark Core as the next coach of the Pella High program.
Schulte, a Pella resident, guided the Braves to a 178-82 record over the last 11 seasons, winning a pair of district championships in that time. They went 18-6 last year and fell to Lynnville-Sully in the district finals of the class 1-A playoffs.
Over the last four years, his teams are 63-9 in the South Iowa Cedar League, and he was selected to coach the Southeast Team at the IBCA all-star series last year.
Before coaching at Montezuma, Schulte was a student assistant at Iowa State and an assistant for both Coe College and Central College in the Iowa Conference.
He is a 1999 graduate of Mediapolis High School where he was a four-sport letter winner in basketball, baseball, football and track.
Schulte has been offered and accepted the position, but it must be made official by the Pella School Board next week.
