Alex Grigg’s grand slam in the sixth inning fueled an 11 run inning that propelled the Knoxville Softball Squad to a 14-4 win over Chariton last night. The Panthers bats were for the most part silent until the fourth inning when trailing 1-0 Haili Swan blasted a three run homer to give Knoxville a 3-1 lead only to see Chariton come back in the top of the fifth to plate three runs of its own to take the 4-03 lead. Swan was able to end the game on a two R-B-I single in the sixth. Coach Steph Christner told KNIA/KRLS Sports the girls were hitting the ball hard early on, and finally they were finding holes in the Chariton defense. Swan was 2/3 with five R-B-I while Griggs went 1/3 and four R-B-I. Reilly Finarty earned the win pitching a solid game going the distance allowing four runs on seven hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Knoxville is now 7-7 on the season and 2-3 in the South Central Conference with Davis County coming in on Friday.
