lightning

This is National Lightning Safety Awareness Week.

Warning Coordination Meteorologist Kelsey Angle with the National Weather Service says no place outdoors is safe from lightning when thunderstorms move into the area.

He says lightning can strike the same place twice and trees are never a safe place to take shelter during a storm.

There are nearly 25 million lightning strikes per year in the United States, and 49 people die from injuries suffered after a strike.
