The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air for a late-night warning Thursday.

A severe thunderstorm was spotted near Carlisle at 11:10 p.m. and prompted a warning for the northwestern portion of the county. After the warning expired, numerous trees and power lines were knocked down as the storm passed through Knoxville, with hundreds of MidAmerican customers without power in the city and some rural areas in the county. Heavy rainfall was reported with the slow-moving storm, and pea-sized hail was spotted in northeastern Warren County and Knoxville. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air with three staff members.

KNIA/KRLS will go on the air live during any Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warning for any portion of Marion County, and backup generators that automatically come on if we lose power ensure our coverage stays on if the power goes out. Those generators were in use throughout the night as crews worked to restore power to the area.
