Tuesday evening just as fireworks displays were being conducted across the state, 15 different agencies from Marion, Lucas and Warren counties were headed to Melcher-Dallas for a structure fire that was reported on the Melcher-Dallas Square.

Just before 9:30 p.m., a structure fire was reported on the west side of the square. The blaze damaged many businesses including: That’s My Bag and More, Sinners and Saints Bar, and Iowa State Savings Bank.

Melcher Dallas Fire Chief, Zach Kalvig tells KNIA/KRLS News That’s My Bag and More as well as Sinners and Saints Bar are a total loss. Iowa State Savings Bank experienced significant water and smoke damage and possible structural damage. Kalvig took time to thank everyone for their help with the fire. He says many agencies assisted in the fire and the fire could not have been extinguished without their help.

The Iowa State Savings Bank office in Melcher-Dallas remains closed while fire damage is assessed and until power is restored to the building. Melcher-Dallas customers are asked to use the main bank office in Knoxville for their banking needs.
