Crowds were record-breaking at the 7th annual Red Rock Balloonfest.

Pella Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Jill Vandevoort says 30 pilots competed this year and all four flights were successful, along with two Night Glows at North Overlook Beach.

Jeremy Rubin won 1st place overall among pilots, with Brandon Bloom in 2nd and Darcy Hoch in 3rd. Leroy Clair was the winner of the Iowa State Savings Bank Cup

Pella Mayor Jim Mueller and Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch agreed to a mayoral competition flight to drop a “ducky” at the target site. The ducks never had the chance to drop and the challenge will reconvene at next year’s event, scheduled for July 6-8, 2018.
