A woman was shot at Elk Rock State Park at Lake Red Rock in the early morning hours.
A woman has been shot at Elk Rock State Park. According to Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt, on the morning of August 5, 2017 at 2:26 a.m. the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls from the campground. Reporting parties said an argument between campers had escalated to the point a firearm was discharged that hit a woman in the leg. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville City Fire/Rescue, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources all responded to the scene.
The initial investigation shows that 21-year-old Joshua Scott Keubler of Dallas Center returned to the the campground shortly after 2:00 a.m. and engaged in a verbal confrontation with people at a neighboring campsite. At some point Mr. Keubler retrieved a firearm from his vehicle but was confronted by members of his party and a neighboring campsite. It was during this confrontation the firearm discharged and struck the woman in the leg.
The victim was transported from the scene and later airlifted to Des Moines with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be released later today.
As a result of this incident Joshua Scott Keubler was charged with going armed with intent, a class D Felony, harassment 1st degree, possession/carrying weapons while intoxicated, public intoxication, and possession of a firearm in a state park. At his initial appearance Mr. Keubler was given a $21,000 bond which he has posted and he has since been released. He is scheduled to appear in the Marion County Courthouse for a preliminary hearing on August 10th at 9:30 a.m.
