While they return their top two offensive players, the Pella Lady Dutch have been hard at work replacing the defensive and setting talent lost to graduation from last year’s team.

Head Coach Catie Brand says new setter Kara Wichhart split time between defense and setting last year, but the senior now has her sights on making sure their high powered outside hitters will have plenty of good looks.

“With running a new setter, it just changes the pace of the game a little bit,” Brand says, “we’ve got hitters that really want to run fast, but we have to have the passing to be able to make it happen , so we’re really working on running in-system.”

Brand says they are also looking at designating serving specialists to help pick up additional points on aces. The Lady Dutch will start the season next Tuesday at Ballard.
