One year ago today, a local family started a non-profit to help an often overlooked group of people.
Judy Fynaardt co-founded 818 Forward with Faith on August 18th after their son Caleb was unable to receive the care he needed after an accident. Fynaardt says their goal is to provide young adults with intellectual disabilities a home to live in so they can live their lives to the fullest extent after high school.
“We just want to really have people understand how much potential these young adults have,” she says. “When you look at them–right away you don’t see it, but they have brought out so many blessings in others, that you don’t even understand until you get to know them and you put them in the community and you spend time, and you acknowledge the fact that they have God-given potential too, and so many abilities, that we want that to be shown and to be expressed.”
“We want the community to embrace that part of their life.”
