Tim Shaffer is known primarily as a 410 drivers, he won the 2010 Knoxville Nationals. Last night, he let everyone know he can also drive a 360 as he led all 20 laps and was never really challenged on night one of the 27th Annual 360 Nationals. Shaffer had to wait through a lengthy red at the start when a multi car crash involved six cars including defending 360 Nationals winner Sammy Swindell, who got the worst end of when his car launched into the main stretch guard rail ,then was sent into oncoming traffic and was hit multiple times. All drivers involved including Swindell were able to walk away uninjured. After the racing resumed Shaffer lengthened his lead over runner-up Josh Baughman and third place Jon Agan by over two seconds. Shaffer told KNIA/KRLS Sports he has had a good stretch in his car whether it is a 410 or 360. The points look like this after night one, Jamie Ball is the leader with 473, Aaron Reutzel is second with 471, Shaffer sits third at 470, Baughman is fourth with 467 and Thomas Kennedy is fifth. The second half of the field will qualify tonight and the top 20 are locked into Saturday championship race.
