The Pella High football team is in unfamiliar territory – trying to bounce back from a loss.
The Little Dutch dropped their first game in more than three years last week, and enter tonight’s district opener against Bondurant-Farrar at 1-1.
The Blue Jays come in 0-2, losing a pair of close decisions to Winterset and Boone.
Pella’s defense has been dominant, as expected, allowing just 17 points in the first two games against Osky and DC-G. But the offense isn’t quite where Coach Jay McKinstrey wants, and he says they’ve been tweaking things in preparation for a Bondurant-Farrar defense that’s dead set on stopping the run.
“We’ll have some different looks tonight. We’ll look similar, but at the same time we’ll try to open it up some more and spread it out. Certainly it was a good week for us to work on some things including our passing game. We’ve had a great week of practice and it will be exciting to see if we can carry that forward to tonight.”
While the streak was stopped last week – the Little Dutch do have another streak that’s still in tact. They haven’t lost a district game since October 19th, 2012 – which is a string of 28 consecutive district wins.
And speaking of the streak – tune in to tonight’s Jeromy Dingeman Concrete Football Friday Night Radio Preview Show for our Football Friday Night Feature for “The Streak: By The Numbers”, a comprehensive look at Pella’s 42-game run.
And back to tonight’s game – it starts at 7:30 at Pella High School, and Trevor Castle and Randy Sikkema will be there to call the action. Pregame goes live at 7:00 on our KRLS2 Stream at www.kniakrls.com.
