Potential City Council Candidates have less than a week to file papers for the upcoming November city elections, however, some contested races are starting to already shape up throughout the county.
According to the Marion County Auditors Office, a contested race has made its way to the ballot, with incumbent Dan Vander Beek receiving a challenge from Lynn Branderhorst in Pella’s Ward One. Bruce Schiebout and Mark De Jong are also running uncontested at this time.
Dennis Seibert is once again running for Harvey Mayor, and Charles W Evans, Tyler Geery, Martin R Heaton, Jamie Vander Veer, and Sue Ver Meer are running for five at-large seats in that community. Barbara Van Wyk is running for mayor again in Melcher-Dallas as well.
Prospective candidates must complete and submit an affidavit of candidacy with nomination papers signed by at least 25 eligible electors. All forms must be filed with the Marion County Auditor by Thursday, September 21st at 5 p.m. Documents are available at the Marion County Courthouse and Pella City Hall.
