A busy day around the area as both the Cardboard Boat Regatta and Roll and Read event will take place tomorrow.

The Cardboard Boat Regatta will be held at North Overlook Beach at Lake Red Rock beginning at 9:30 a.m. Area high school students from Knoxville, Melcher-Dallas, PCM, Pella, Pella Christian, and Pleasantville will all take part in the competition which will feature awards handed out to the top three finishers as well as most creative boat and most enthusiastic group.

A community family event titled “Roll and Read” will also be held tomorrow. The Parents as Teachers Program from the Marion County Public Health Department, sponsored by Early Child Iowa (ECI), will hold the event which will take place at the Marion County Park from noon to 2 p.m. Families are invited to walk, bike, skate, push a stroller or wagon around a one mile loop to support family physical well-being, family togetherness and literacy. Stops along the way will feature reading stations, booths and presentations. The event is open to families and children of all ages.
