Hayden Vroom and Noah Treimer combined for 302 yards rushing and five rushing touchdowns – in the first half – as the Pella Christian football team rolled to a 56-14 victory over Mount Ayr last night in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
This was the third game for the Eagles with Vroom at quarterback and Treimer at running back, and while they had success in the previous two, assistant coach Verlan Nikkel says that in the first half last night, it really started to click.
“The first game that Hayden played at quarterback, he wasn’t super smooth and we had some hiccups. But I think he’s getting more comfortable as we go and Noah’s getting more comfortable in the position that he’s playing. I think we’ve pretty well settled into what we’re going to look like offensively.”
Vroom also added a touchdown toss to Kyle Fynaardt, Nathan DeBruin had a pick six, and Dan Jungling threw a scoring strike to Max Wichhart.
Pella Christian improves to 5-0 on the season, and is 3-0 in district play. Up next is a trip to winless Woodward Academy next Friday night.
