The Marion County Democratic Party held its annual pie auction fundraiser Sunday.
Among those attending were Democratic candidates for Governor and Secretary of State. The candidates for governor were Des Moines State Senator Nate Boulton, Nurse and Union Organizer in Coralville Cathy Glasson, Retired Insurance Executive in Des Moines Fred Hubbell, Past Chairwoman of the Iowa Democratic Party and Physician Dr. Andy McGuire, and former Iowa City Mayor and current Ames resident Ross Wilburn.
The candidates focused their criticism on what they see as a failed Branstad and Reynolds administration, noting while that administration inherited a budget surplus, their mismanagement of state resources and giving corporate tax benefits to out of state companies has created a budget crisis. They also criticized Reynolds for her role in implementing policies they feel hurt public education and labor, among other issues.
Secretary of State candidates Deidre DeJear and Jim Mowrer were also in attendance.
