Habitat for Humanity of Marion County is in the process of finding a home for a family in an unconventional way.
Director Robin Pfalzgraf tells KNIA/KRLS News Habitat for Humanity is moving a 1920s bungalow house currently on West 1st Street in Pella to a different lot at 402 East First Street for a new Habitat family to move into later this winter.
“We had a couple from Pella that wanted to take a house that was on a property–they wanted to build a different structure, and they offered to donate it to us,” she says. “So with that, we owned a small property that to had once upon a time had been a donation, that could we move that house to.”
She says Habitat for Humanity had been hearing more requests to restore existing homes as opposed to building new to breathe new life into historic structures throughout the community while helping find new homes for families in the Habitat program.
“To me, this is a win across the board,” she says. “We are doing our mission of putting people of lower incomes in a house and changing hopefully their whole living situation, and yet we are honoring what the community wants.”
Pfalzgraf says they intend to explore more home donation opportunities in the future. Click here to learn more about the latest at Habitat for Humanity of Marion County.
