Superintendent of the Pella Community School District Greg Ebeling has been named the 2017-18 Iowa Superintendent of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa.

SAI Executive Director Roark Horn said, “Greg exemplifies what all school superintendents aspire to be: a caring, compassionate leader who is able to motivate and inspire others through his excellent decision-making and personal modeling. His singular focus is on what students are able to learn and achieve, and he maximizes their ability to do so by working with staff, administration, the board and the community to create a remarkable climate and culture. Greg will be an outstanding representative of the best that Iowa has to offer in school leadership.”

“I am humbled to receive this award and accept this honor on behalf of all of the students, staff members and parents of the Pella Community School District. So many people work hard every day to make our district a great place for students to learn. We are blessed to have people who go above and beyond in their efforts with students. This award is really a reflection of the work they do every day,” Ebeling expressed.

Prior to coming to Pella in 2011, he was superintendent of Spencer Community Schools. He began his education career as a junior high math teacher at Oskaloosa. A graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and secondary education, Ebeling also earned his master’s in secondary education administration from Drake University and his superintendency certificate from the University of Northern Iowa.

He was nominated by his peers and selected for the award by a committee of Iowa superintendents. Administrator of the Year recipients will be honored at a governor’s awards ceremony in late spring and SAI’s Annual Conference next August. He will also represent Iowa in the National Superintendent of the Year Program sponsored by AASA, The School Superintendents Association.
