Knoxville stopped a four game losing streak last night and had to work some overtime to beat North Polk on homecoming night 36-29 in a game heard live on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA. The Panthers jumped out to a 14-0 lead early on and threatened to blow the game open but North Polk went to a Wildcat offense and relied on their star player Mason Russell, who ran for 283 yards on 45 carries plus four touchdowns. With the Comets leading 29/21, Knoxville’s Hunter Ohannessian took over retuning two kick offs deep in North Polk territory and making a circus catch to tie the game at 29 sending the game into the extra frame. Knoxville got the ball first and three plays later, Ohannessian was in from six yards out, then Knoxville’s defense sealed the win with a Rylan Cox interception in the end zone on fourth down. Coach Eric Kellar told KNIA/KRLS Sports, his receivers and offensive coordinator Bill Ehrlichman did their jobs. Jacob Zuck once again led Knoxville’s ground game with 127 yards on 24 carries…Ohannessian carried 11 times for 61 yards. Knoxville is now 3-4 on the season and 1-4 in the district, which stops a 12 game district losing streak. The Panthers travel to Bondurant-Farrar next Friday.
