Fire Prevention Week is this week.

Each year Fire Prevention Week is held to bring awareness to the dangers associated with fire. Chief Jim Mitchell with Knoxville Fire and Rescue tells KNIA/KRLS News his department will host different preschools, showing them equipment and telling the children how to stay safe from fire. Mitchell says they will also visit both West Elementary and North Star Elementary sharing the fire prevention message with over 900 children. Fire Prevention Week is the longest running public health observance. This year’s theme is “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out!” and is meant to reinforce why everyone needs to have a fire escape plan.
