Wartburg used a bruising rushing attack to rack up more than 300 yards on the ground in a 44-20 win over the Central College football team Saturday in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Knights led from start to finish, taking advantage of offensive penalties that stalled Central drives, big special teams plays that set up Wartburg inside of Central territory, and the running game that the Dutch couldn’t stop.

Wartburg improves to 5-0 and 3-0 in the Iowa Conference, while Central is 3-3 and 2-2. Coach Jeff McMartin says that there will be a lot of things to work on this week in practice.

“Probably every area (needs improved). I don’t think that we did anything outstandingly well that I’d say ‘well, that doesn’t need improved on’. Wartburg played really well, and we’ve got to keep getting better. We’ve got to get better in the running game, we’ve got to stop the run better and we’ve got to do better on special teams. There’s a lot of areas we need to improve.”

The Dutch will head to Cedar Rapids next week to take on defending Iowa Conference champion Coe. The Kohawks, who lost to Wartburg last week, are coming off their bye and sit at 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.
