The city of Pella is over halfway done in planting over 100,000 tulip bulbs ahead of next May’s annual Tulip Time celebration.
City of Pella Parks Manager Chandler Nunnikhoven tells KNIA/KRLS News the City of Pella receives tulip bulbs in the first week of October and over the course of 4-5 days they are inspected and sorted by staff. He says this year, they plan to have over 80 varieties planted.
The City of Pella Parks Department plants and maintains over 180 flower beds in the City of Pella including street beds, parks and city facilities. Additionally, tens of thousands of flowers are planted by Pella Historical Society and local residents.
