Local fire departments throughout Marion County have taken part in live fire training in Knoxville this week.

The training has been conducted by the Fire Service Training Bureau which brought an Interior Fire Attack Simulator to the Knoxville City parking lot. Chief Jim Mitchell with Knoxville Fire and Rescue tells KNIA/KRLS News a simulated couch fire is part of the training with a rollover fire on the ceiling which can be caused by extremely hot fires. Chief Mitchell says his department has a lot of young firefighters who need certificates so this training helps them learn how to fight certain fires without the need of a building while allowing for live fire. Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Indiana Township Fire Department and Clay Township Fire Department have used the training simulator.
