The Pella City Council approved an engineering services agreement to improve the Oostpoort alleyway at their meeting Monday.

A $150,000 contract with Garden and Associates is now in place to design the infrastructure project expected to begin after Tulip Time 2018 and estimated to cost close to $1 million overall.

In addition, the council approved a preliminary plat for Fairway Meadows at Bos Landen. Vermeer Development is requesting to subdivide two lots consisting of 2.37 acres into seven lots for residential development via preliminary plat to construct single-family attached residential homes.

Following regular business, they considered their options in expanding the number of special use permits available from two to three in the central business district for bars and taverns, but ultimately decided against expanding the number available. The issue was brought to council after they conditionally approved a liquor license for The Lamppost Lounge, on the condition ownership would apply for receive a special permit. The bar on Washington Street is currently operating without the approval required from the Board of Adjustment in the downtown business district. They will now decide whether or not to renew The Lamp Post license at a meeting to be determined.
