Pella Regional Health Center provided nearly $4.4 million in community benefits last year, according to a recently completed assessment by the Iowa Hospital Association.
That amount, based on 2016 figures, includes nearly $3.5 million in uncompensated care such as charity care, bad debt and unpaid costs of Medicaid.
Community benefits are programs and services that address identified community health needs, regardless of source or availability of payment, and provide measurable improvement in health care access, health status and the use of health care resources.
Pella Regional’s community benefit activities were estimated to serve nearly 30,000 people in the region.
