With two young teams facing off last night in Knoxville, the Panthers took down area rival PCM 68-55.
The Mustangs had already started their season with a win over Newton, but it was the season and varsity debut for many players on the young Knoxville squad who didn’t show it with their play getting out to a 35-24 halftime lead. Stopping several PCM runs in the second half, the Panthers used hot three point shooting to pull away in the victory. Sophomore Katie Keitges scored a game high 27 for the Panthers, and freshman Maggie Wilkins in her varsity debut scored 23.
Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports, that he wasn’t surprised to see his freshman do well. Regan Freland led the Mustangs with 21 points, while Morgan Uhlenhopp scored 12. Knoxville will start South Central Conference play next Tuesday against Albia, while PCM will have to wait until next Friday to see the court again traveling to Saydel
