With winter weather fast approaching, the National Weather Service and local emergency agencies remind everyone to be prepared when storms arrive.
Warning Coordination Meteorologist Kelsey Angle with the National Weather Service encourages all who plan to travel when snow and ice comes to the area to have an emergency survival kit ready to use.
“It’s important to plan and prepare now,” he says. “If you’re going to be traveling, make sure you have a winter car survival kit, and within that, you’re going to want to have some water, non-perishable food, blankets, and also make sure you’ve got a cell phone as well as a charger, and also make sure that you’ve got a shovel or kitty litter just in case you get stuck and stranded.”
Angle says the National Weather Service provides as much notice as they can for winter storms, however, he believes it’s best to be prepared if conditions change rapidly. KNIA/KRLS partners with WeatherEye and the National Weather Service to provide up-to-the-minute winter weather updates.
