Central travelled to Decorah last night for an Iowa Conference basketball doubleheader with Luther, and the women dropped the opener while the men won the nightcap.

Emily Dine scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 66-48 loss as the Dutch women fell to 2-3 overall.

Luther raced out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter and Central cut the lead to 4 with 3:37 left in the first half but never closed the gap.

After a brutal non-conference schedule the Central men finally got their first win of the season over the Norse, 86-82. With the win, Central improved to 1-4 on the season

The Dutch took a 46-40 lead into halftime before Luther battled back to take a 47-46 lead early in the second half. The two teams traded the lead until Central captured a 69-68 advantage with 9:15 remaining in the game and the Dutch never relinquished the lead.

Central was led by Kyle Smith’s 23 points and six rebounds.

Up next for both squads is an Iowa Conference doubleheader Saturday at home against Dubuque.
