Iowa’s Acting Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg has been gracing his office walls with a portrait with extra meaning to him from his time at Central College.

The official portrait of David Roe, Central’s 20th president, is currently on loan to Gregg and is displayed in his formal office at the Iowa State Capitol. A 2006 Central graduate, Gregg earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history and was a member of the football team. He tells KNIA/KRLS News he has the option to select art from around the state to display in his office — and Roe had significant impact on his life.

“The people of Central College—including Dr. David Roe himself—played a major role in preparing me for a life of service,” Gregg said. “I admire Dr. Roe, not only for his leadership of the college, but for his selfless military service to our country. I’m proud to honor Dr. David Roe and Central College by hanging this portrait in my formal office, where it can serve as daily reminder of the power of education, of service and of leadership.”

Roe served as Central’s president from 1998 to 2010, and his portrait previously resided in the Brunsting Fireside Lounge in Central’s Graham Conference Center.
