The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is starting a K-9 program in the near future.

In October, the family of the late Clayton Harsin donated a check for $7,500 to the Sheriff’s Office following the second annual Wheels and Wings ride. The Wheels and Wings Memorial Ride raises money to help bring awareness to drunk driving. Sheriff Jason Sandholdt tells KNIA/KRLS News there are different types of K-9 units but he wants the K-9 and deputy to be trained in narcotics and narcotics tracking.Sandholdt says he is excited to be able to start the program and help keep drug dealers off the streets of Marion County. The sheriff’s office is asking for donations to help pay for everyday supplies for the K-9. To make a donation towards the K-9 unit, checks can be made payable to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, with Sheriff K9 Fund in the memo line. In-person donations can be made with check, cash or money order at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8- 4:30.
