A possible structure fire was reported in rural Pleasantville Wednesday morning.
The Pleasantville Fire Department, Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Runnels Fire Department, Hartford Fire Department, Marion County Emergency Management, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene just before 8 a.m., which turned out to be a smoldering controlled brush fire that had not been called in prior to the fire starting. As temperatures begin to warm up and residents begin burning left over brush from the fall, Chief Kenny Thompson with Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department tells KNIA/KRLS News residence just need to make one call to avoid any confusion. He says Wednesday four departments were called for a possible structure fire which could have been avoided if the person burning brush would have just called in the controlled burn before starting the fire. Thompson says the person who reported the fire was doing the right thing and that his department would always rather be called to a potential fire than not called.
