Fire Destroys Home in Knoxville

Multiple emergency crews responded to a fully-engulfed house fire in Knoxville Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported before 9:30 a.m. at 1145 McKimber Street. The deed to the home lists Phillip and Kathleen Smith as the owners of home. Knoxville Township Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson tells KNIA/KRLS News the home is a total loss. He says ammunition stored inside the house went off during the fire. Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Knoxville Township Rural Fire, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Police, Pella Rural Fire, Marion County Emergency Management, MidAmerican Energy and Alliant Energy responded to the scene. Pleasant Street/McKimber Street was closed from Highway 5/92 to Graceland Cemetery while crews battled the blaze.
