The road trip to Storm Lake for a pair of evening basketball games did not go the way of the Storm, as Simpson was swept in the women’s/men’s doubleheader by the Beavers of Buena Vista, 74-62 and 88-82 respectively.

The women’s game had a career milestone reached as Noreen Morrow surpassed 1000 career points in the third quarter. Unfortunately, the Storm’s leading scorer only needed four points to get there and foul trouble limited her minutes in the first half along with other members of the Storm frontcourt leading to an 8 point halftime deficit. A 13-2 run late in the third allowed the Storm to go into the fourth trailing by just 1, and briefly took the lead 56-55, but were outscored 18-7 after that. Jenna Taylor led Simpson with 13 points.

The Storm men had a 2 point advantage going into halftime after a slow first half 33-31, but the pace favored the Beavers in the second half. An explosion of scoring saw the Storm fall behind early in the second period and could not recover despite a furious rally in the final minutes. Sam Amsbaugh scored 25 points in the contest, including a perfect 11-11 at the foul stripe, while Conor Riordan scored 19 points.

Both teams are now 5-3 in the conference, and will travel to Dubuque on Wednesday.
