A home was likely destroyed and an apartment building damaged less than 18 hours apart in Knoxville.

Multiple emergency crews responded to a report of a structure fire at 902 East Montgomery Street in Knoxville at approximately 8:30 Thursday morning. As crews arrived on the scene, flames were coming from a second story window and back upper portion of the home. Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Knoxville Township Rural Fire, Pella Fire, Pella Ambulance, Knoxville Police, Marion County Emergency Management and Alliant Energy responded. County records show that the home is owned by Kay Carlson of Spirit Lake. The fire was extinguished just after 9:30 a.m. No one was injured and the cause is unknown.

Thursday’s fire followed an apartment fire at 1804 Delores Street in Knoxville which resulted in a Knoxville Police officer being transported to the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics for possible smoke inhalation. Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, fire crews responding to the scene saw smoke coming from a downstairs apartment. Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell tells KNIA/KRLS News the fire was caused by a candle and there was no loss of life. Approximately 20 people were displaced by the fire but all have since returned to their apartment, except for the resident in which the fire originated. The Knoxville police officer was treated and released. Knoxville Fire and Rescue, the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, the Knoxville Police Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County Emergency Management all responded.
