The trial of a Knoxville man accused of sexually abusing a woman in August of 2016 continued Friday.
Knoxville officers responded to a call in August of 2016 in the 100 block of West Douglas Street in Knoxville for an alleged assault that had taken place. Upon arrival, officers were told by an adult female that Asa Ruben South had sexually assaulted and beaten her. The victim was transported to the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics and South was arrested and charged with sexual abuse in second degree, a class B felony. South claims there was no assault, and the interaction was consensual “rough sex.” Dramatic police officer body cam footage of the victim as officers arrived on scene was played. The video showed the victim as distraught, shaken, and bloody. She insisted she had been raped, and that she had fought back. Closing arguments were made at the end of court Friday, and jury deliberation begins today.
