Historic Pella Trust and Central College are seeking people interested in saving a historic home on campus.

Director of Historic Pella Trust Jennifer Van Kooten tells KNIA/KRLS News the structure at 300 Broadway Street has drawn significant interest after the college decided it had no future use for the building.

She says the house has origins dating back to the early 20th century, and was built by the Waechter family.

“The Waechter house was built in 1914,” she says. “It was part of the lumber yard that was built in the 1870s and lasted four generations. The house has beautiful hardwood that’s never been painted, it has hardwood floors throughout it, and it’s oak upstairs and downstairs.”

Central College has been seeking someone willing to move the house before June 1st, when they would likely look to demolish the property. Central has stated their support of historic preservation, and any interested party should contact them for more information.
