The Memorial Hall in Knoxville was burglarized this past week with items from the Batty Tucker Post 168 of the American Legion stolen.
Multiple rifles were taken from the hall that are used for salutes during military funerals and holidays. Commander of the post Curt Froyen tells KNIA/KRLS News having the rifles stolen is devastating to the legion because they use the rifles to honor veterans when they are laid to rest. Foryen says the rifles have been modified for firing blanks and could be dangerous if live ammo is used. Foryen says he would hate to have an unwitting individual have the rifle blow up in their face if they tried to fire it. Chief Dan Losada with the Knoxville Police Department tells KNIA/KRLS News his department is asking the public’s help locating the weapons. He says his department is following up on a number of leads. Losada asks the public to contact his department with any information so they can help honor our veterans. If anyone has any information regarding the rifles they are asked to contact the Knoxville Police Department at 641-828-0554 and ask to speak with an officer.
