Students at Knoxville High School will be packing over 50,000 meals for Meals from the Heartland throughout the day today.
Students will work in an assembly line for an hour at a time putting together rice and soy based meals that can feed up to six people per package. Meals from the Heartland sends their packaged meals as far as Nicaragua or South Africa, or to local Iowa based organizations such as the Food Bank of Iowa or the Salvation Army. The event begins in the Knoxville Performing Arts Center at 8:20 a.m. with an assembly to explain the process and recognize any donations, then packaging will run through 2:30 p.m.
