While many teammates were off for spring break, numerous local girls track athletes competed at the 25th annual Iowa State University Indoor High School Classic in Ames Monday.
The event features nearly four dozen schools from around the entire state, with over 100 athletes competing in most of the individual events.
Emily Vos of Pella took 1st place in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 7.98, topping numerous big school athletes in the event. Emily Holterhaus finished tied for 8th with a high jump at 5 feet. Holterhaus also took 17th in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 10.34, and PCM’s Megan Cowman placed 21st.
The Lady Dutch sprint medley team of Miller, Vos, Holterhaus, and Rose Vander Hoff was 8th overall at 1:56.44. Pella Freshman Ashley Blommers took 18th in the 1500 meters. Paige Wood of the Mustangs was 34th out 112 shot putters with a toss of 31 feet, 5.5 inches.
Knoxville’s Katie Keitges was 5th in the open 800, coming in at 2:25.58, with Pella’s Caroline McMartin running a 2:37.47. Kate McCarthy of PCM was the 31st to cross the finish line. Keitges also ran 11:04.73 in the 3000 meters finals, good for 11th overall, followed by McMartin, who placed in 18th at 11:23.91.
PCM’s best finish was 3rd place in the 4×400 meter relay at 4:24.16. Knoxville placed 18th in the same race.
The boys head up to Ames for Day Two of the classic today.
