Numerous grass fires were reported yesterday in Marion County.

Knoxville Township Rural Fire and Pella Rural Fire responded to a grass fire at 1083 Highway G46 (above). Pella provided a tanker and brush truck to assist. The fire was started by a neighbor. Pleasantville and Melcher-Dallas firefighters battled a blaze in the 500 Block of County Highway T40.

County officials ask residents to avoid burning during windy, dry conditions. Those who do plan to have a controlled burn should call their local police office — for those served by Pella Fire, they should call the Pella Police Department at 628-4921 and those in the rest of Marion County should call the Sheriff’s Office at 828-2220.
