Candidates have submitted their affidavits of candidacy in Iowa ahead of yesterday’s deadline for state and federal elections.
After Representative Guy Vander Linden announced he will not run for another term, three candidates will run in separate parties in House District 79: New Sharon Mayor Dustin Hite as a Republican, Samantha Keith of University Park as a Democrat, and Nicholas Ryan of Oskaloosa as a Libertarian. The district includes Pella, Oskaloosa, New Sharon, and the western half of Mahaska County.
In Iowa House District 28, in which incumbent Greg Heartsill is not running for re-election, four candidates have filed for candidacy: Jon Van Wyk of Sully and Jon Thorup of Knoxville in the Republican primary, while Ann Fields of Knoxville and Zachary Pendroy of Monroe are on the Democratic ticket. That district covers most of Marion County, the eastern half of Lucas, and portions of Jasper County.
At the federal level, Congressman Dave Loebsack will try for a sixth term against 2016 challenger Dr. Christopher Peters or Osceola businesswoman and evangelical activist Ginny Caligiuri (Call-uh-jury), who will both compete for the spot on the ballot as Republicans.
Candidates for county elections, including the Board of Supervisors, treasurer, recorder, and attorney have until March 28th to file.
