A family looking for additional help in taking care of a service dog they will receive this summer is holding a fundraiser this evening.

A silent and live auction for Kaelie DeHeer’s new service dog will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Pella Opera House. Kaelie’s mother Tina Uitermarkt tells KNIA/KRLS News they are raising money to pay for a fence for the canine, as well as for future veterinary expenses.

Uitermarkt says they are thankful for $14,000 raised by the community so far, which allowed them to receive a matching scholarship from Domesti-PUPS, a not-for-profit based in Lincoln, Nebraska, which provides therapy and service dogs.
