Residents can have their best four-legged friends featured in the annual Tulip Time parades this year.

Pella Historical Society Executive Director Valerie Van Kooten tells KNIA/KRLS News they are partnering with Faux Paws Bakery for the first Dutch Doggie Parade during the afternoon parades of Tulip Time May 3rd and 5th.

“Over the past year, we’ve had several people approach us and say other parades have had a ‘doggie’ component, couldn’t we do something like that?” she says. “We have our baby parade, we have our school kids in the parade, so why not people with their dogs — people love their dogs and they like to put Dutch costumes on their dogs.”

One dog per adult is allowed, and both the owner and canine must be dressed in a Dutch costume. Participating dogs must also be friendly, wear a leash, and up to date on shots and vaccinations.

The Dutch Doggie Parade will take place the Thursday and Saturday afternoons of Tulip Time, and registered participants should line up in front of the Comfort House on Union Street at 3 p.m. All Doggie Dutch Parade participants must be registered by Monday, April 30.
