Marion County residents hoping to take advantage of warmer weather to build houses or structures such as sheds or pole barns, will need to first acquire a building permit from the county zoning department.

Melissa Poffenbarger with the Marion County Zoning Department tells KNIA/KRLS News there are requirements for building new structures that residents should be aware of, including how close to property lines you are building, whether your lot is wide enough to contain what you want to build, or safety and insurance issues you might run into. Poffenbarger went on to say that any time you are extending closer to your property lines, you need to get a building permit. Permits can be obtained in the zoning office at the Marion County Courthouse.
