American Legion Post 89 in Pella recognized 5th graders for participating in the annual Flag Essay Contest.

Three winners were chosen and two of them read their essays at the Pella Memorial Hall Monday night: 2nd place – J.J. Spratt, and 1st place – Jocelyn Lunsford, both from Jefferson Intermediate School. Kelsey Tauke, who won 3rd place, had a family commitment, so instead had her teacher Mrs. Criscuolo read on her behalf.

Students from Pella and Pella Christian wrote about the flag late last year and submitted their essays to be judged by the American Legion.
