Some of the best football players to ever compete in Marion County will have one last high school football game before they head to college.
Lucas Warner of Pella, Alex Huisman of Pella Christian, and Hunter Tyree of Pleasantville will all be featured on the South team in the 46th annual Iowa Shrine Bowl. Proceeds from the Iowa Shrine Bowl support The Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Warner was Pella’s second leading tackler this past season, racking up 63 stops, including 10 for a loss and two sacks. He returned an interception for a touchdown and caught nine passes on offense for 103 yards and three scores. He’s heading to Dordt College to play football this fall.
Huisman has been a cornerstone starting offense tackle on a high-octane Eagles offense that scored more points than any other Class 1A team in each of the past two seasons. He also had three sacks and eight and a half tackles for loss on defense. Alex will join Warner as a member of the Defenders football team this year.
Tyree racked up 1815 yards of total offense, averaged 8.6 yards per touch and scored 24 times for the 8-3 Trojans in 2017. Hunter is heading to Grand View University in Des Moines to continue his career.
In addition to the football players, cheerleaders Elizabeth Bradbury and Taegen Hamer of PCM and the Pleasantville Dance Team will also be represented at the all-star showcase.
The 46th Annual Iowa Shrine Bowl is July 21 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls
